Rainforest Jasper Slab (orbicular Rhyolite) from Australia
Rainforest Jasper / Orbicular Rhyolite – Australia
A spectacular Australian Rainforest Jasper, also known as Orbicular Rhyolite, featuring an extraordinary pattern of rounded and oval orbicules in shades of olive green, mustard yellow, rust, burgundy, brown, and reddish earth tones.
This substantial slab is packed with colorful orbicular patterns from edge to edge, with each individual orb displaying its own combination of colors, rings, and internal patterns. The earthy palette gives this piece an almost painterly appearance, while the sheer number of orbicules makes it fascinating to examine up close.
The specimen has been cut into a tall, dramatic display slab, allowing the intricate patterning to take center stage. Its natural variation and abundance of individual orbicules make this a particularly attractive collector's piece.
Lapidary Potential:
Because this specimen is already cut and the colorful orbicular pattern extends throughout the material, it also has excellent potential for lapidary work. Depending on the desired cut and orientation, portions could potentially be fashioned into pendants, earrings, cabochons, small carvings, or other jewelry and decorative pieces. Cutting it would, of course, create a different finished piece and sacrifice the current display form.
