Gary Green Jasper (Larsonite) / Petrified Bogwood Slab #3
Gary Green Jasper (Larsonite) / Petrified Bogwood Slab
A beautiful display-size slab of Gary Green Jasper, commonly known as Larsonite or Gary Green petrified bogwood, featuring striking blue-green, turquoise, cream, tan, and gray coloration. The face is filled with dramatic flowing bands and wood-like patterns that give the piece an almost abstract, landscape-like appearance.
About Larsonite: Gary Green Jasper, also known as Larsonite or petrified bogwood, comes from the McDermitt area along the Oregon/Nevada border. The material is traditionally believed to have formed during the Miocene Epoch, approximately 11–15 million years ago, when an ancient wetland or bog was buried by volcanic ash. The ash and mineral-rich fluids that permeated the buried material helped preserve and mineralize the organic material, producing the distinctive blue-green, turquoise, cream, tan, and gray patterns seen in Larsonite today. Its dramatic flowing patterns can preserve the appearance of wood grain, vegetation, and other features of the ancient environment.
This is an especially attractive specimen because both sides are clean-cut and visually appealing, offering two different views of the intricate patterning. The pictured face has a polished finish; the reverse side is unpolished allowing the subtle textures and variations in the material to remain visible.
The irregular natural outline adds to its character, while the combination of vivid turquoise-green areas, pale cream bands, darker gray sections, and earthy tan accents creates exceptional contrast.
A substantial 7-inch-tall display piece that would make an impressive addition to a mineral, lapidary, or petrified wood collection.
